Description: |
On October 1, 1958 at 8:56 a.m. the time had come: Elvis Presley, the king of rock 'n' roll, arrived in the troop transport P 115, 'USS General G.M. Randall' at Columbuskaje, berth 700, in Bremerhaven. Around 700 fans and onlookers were present at Columbuskaje in Bremerhaven when Elvis set foot on German soil at 09:22. His train left at around 10:30 a.m., taking him to Friedberg in Wetterau, Hesse. Until March 1, 1960 he did his military service in the Ray Barracks in Friedberg. During the seventeen months of his stay, Wetterau was upside down: fans surrounded his house in Bad Nauheim, the Presley clan who had traveled with him caused a stir, and countless stories and anecdotes made the rounds. The authors Heinrich Burk and Hans-Ulrich Elter spoke to contemporary witnesses who remember their experiences with the King. Source: B+U Verlag. |
